About Lakeside Guest House

Lakeside Guest House, overlooking Knysna’s picturesque lagoon, offers basic accommodation with self-catering facilities and is just a ten-minute walk from the waterfront.

There are numerous room types available, decorated in an Austrian wood-panelled style – some offering balconies overlooking the lake. Each has varying degrees of self-catering facilities. The two-bedroom suite, for example, which sleeps up to five guests, incorporates a kitchenette with a microwave and refrigerator.

Lakeside Guest House offers some undercover parking and barbecue facilities.

Breakfast can be arranged, whilst there are many eateries around the waterfront. The Cruise Cafe, just over five minutes’ walk away, serves sea food specialities on its lagoon-facing deck.

Knysna Mall and the Millwood House Museum can be reached on foot in roughly 15 minutes. The National Lake Area and the famous Heads are under 15 minutes away by car.

Positive Reviews

Pleasant situation overlooking the lagoon

The breathtaking view over the lagoon is the big attraction here. Guests love sitting out and admiring the water from the comfort of their balconies. The location of the guest house is also found to be quite convenient. It is easy to access and just as simple to get to all the sights and attractions in and around Knysna. The Waterfront and city centre, for example, can be reached in a short ten-minute walk.

Good value accommodation

Luxury may not be the word that springs to mind when describing this accommodation, however, guests are relatively content with what they get for their money. The beds are comfortable and the rooms have all the necessary amenities for a short stay.

Friendly owners

The hosts have seemingly developed a good reputation for being helpful and welcoming. Guests say they are always happy to help and make them feel at home.

Negative Reviews

Soundproofing is weak

Light-sleeping travellers beware: guests warn that the rooms are not very well insulated. The accommodation is also right next to a busy main road with lots of lorries regularly passing by. Even if they get used to the traffic noise, with such thin walls, guests risk being disturbed by neighbours returning back late, talking, or even snoring.

Compact and rustic accommodation

Reviews suggest the rooms can be quite small and cramped here, and the decor quite dated. Guests comment that there can be little space to move around the bed, whilst the self-catering facilities can be quite limited in certain rooms – some with no sink, let alone microwave or oven.

Cleaning quite irregular

Reports of cleanliness are quite variable, with guests pointing out that housekeeping is not carried out on a daily basis.
